Nancy Knight & Berta Platas
Berta Platas is an award-winning author of Latina romance, as well as co-author, with Michele Roper, of the popular YA urban fantasy series The Faire Folk Saga, soon to be see a reboot by Fallstaff Press, and the new By Honor Bound fantasy trilogy cowritten with Nancy Knight. She and Nancy also write a paranormal cozy mystery series set in Charleston, SC.
Nancy Knight is the author of fifteen novels, six adult plays, more than twenty children’s plays, many short stories, and two produced screen plays. Her movie, Evil Little Things, is currently in distribution and is available from Amazon Prime. She has edited several
fiction anthologies. Since 1987, she has taught creative writing workshops, classes and seminars all across the country for writer’s organizations, conventions, and colleges.
She is the former president of Atlanta Writers Club, Georgia Romance Writers, Southeastern Writers’ Association and several other groups. Georgia Romance Writers gives an award in her name each year honoring her mentorship of upcoming writers. In June of 2023, Falstaff Books awarded her a Lifetime Achievement Award for mentoring new authors. She has been director of Writers’ Track
for Dragon Con for twenty-six years and, as such, produces more than forty hours of programming each year at Dragon Con. She was honored with the Hank Rhinehart Award in 2004 for promoting writers and literature. In October of 2023, Knight was
honored with a “Legacy of Love” award for her lifetime contribution as a founding member of Georgia Romance Writers.
She is a member of Women in Film/Atlanta, Atlanta Writers’ Club, Horror Writers Association, Georgia Romance Writers, and the Science Fiction and Fantasy Writers Association.
Knight has been a storyteller for A Tour of Southern Ghosts since 1992. She selects, and sometimes writes, stories for herself and other storytellers and is a story coach. One of Ms. Knight’s latest novels, Cursed, was nominated for and is a finalist in
for the coveted Maggie Award for Excellence in Writing in the Young Adult category. The second book in the series, Queen’s Honor was released in September 2022. The third book, Queen’s Curse was released in October 2023. Her novel, Destiny’s Flames will be released in the spring of 2024.
Ms. Knight served as education director for ART Station in Stone Mountain, Georgia. She has worked either full time or under contract since 1987. She was director of children’s programming and responsible for their Summer Arts Camp and Youth Performance Company.
One of Ms. Knight’s latest novels, Cursed, was nominated for and is a finalist in for the coveted Maggie Award for Excellence in Writing in the Young Adult category. She teaches a Master Class in fiction writing at the DeKalb School for the Arts. Ms. Knight serves as the office manager, resources manager, and outreach at St. Mary’s Independent Living Extensions, which serves developmentally disabled adults. Among her duties are fundraising and applying for grants from foundations,
corporations, and the general public. In addition, she mentors the SMILE Theatre Company and teaches various discipline art classes for the SMILE Day Program. She is also mentor for the SMILE Travel Club. Ms. Knight also serves as the advisor for the new SMILE Client Newsletter, set to debut in November.
