Julie Clarke, born in Atlanta, Georgia, in 2018 published a non-fiction book on her husband, Rick’s ancestor: “Pauline D’Alvigny Campbell, Civil War Nurse”. It includes a true account of Rick Clarke’s third great-grandmother, who served as a nurse and matron in 1864 and early 1865, for the Atlanta Medical College Hospital (now Emory), along with her father Dr. Noel D’Alvigny. Dr. D’Alvigny is of French origin and the role model for Dr. Meade in “Gone with the Wind”. Rick and Julie are re-enactors, and participated in a short film under the name of “Saving Grace”, and re-ran as “The Steeple” on Georgia Public Television. Julie’s second book is a spiritual memoir, “In Bird and Song God Speaks”, published in 2022. It focuses on the presence and providence of God in her life, which includes a bird-theme, and QR codes to traditional hymns, some of which performed by the author. In 2023 she received the Georgia Independent Author of the Year Award (GIAYA) for best memoir. As a member of the Southeastern Writer’s Association, she got first place in a Limerick contest in the Summer of 2024. Her latest book, “Blue Seas and Pink Self, Poems by a Younger Me”, contains poems that Julie wrote when she was a teen and young adult and includes other classic poems that inspired her during her adolescence. When not writing and working as Circulation Manager for Site Selection magazine (corporate real estate strategy), Julie enjoys trivia and singing in the church choir.
